OK, SO ABOUT BACK IN MARCH AND APRIL, DURING THE MISS OF THE BEGINNING OF THE COVID PANDEMIC, I WAS TALKING TO MY BROTHER ETHAN, WHO IS STANDING RIGHT NOW, AND WE WERE HONESTLY A LITTLE BIT WORRIED ABOUT WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE WE HAD I HAVEN'T SEEN A PANDEMIC IN OVER A HUNDRED YEARS OF THIS MAGNITUDE.

AND SO I WAS UNSURE OF WHAT I COULD DO.

AND SO THERE WAS REALLY FOUR OPTIONS I HAD.

THE FIRST OPTION WAS PANIC.

NOW, THIS WAS SOMETHING I DID BECAUSE I WAS WORRIED.

I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN.

AND THE SECOND OPTION WAS PLAY A LOT OF VIDEO GAMES AND EAT JUNK FOOD.

WE HAD TWO EXTRA WEEKS AFTER SPRING BREAK.

AND SO. WE ALL DID THAT.

A THIRD THING WAS ADDRESS THE ISSUE AND FIND A SOLUTION WHICH WOULD ACTUALLY REQUIRE A LOT OF WORK, WHICH IS SOMETHING I DID NOT WANT TO DO AT THE TIME BECAUSE I HAD TWO EXTRA WEEKS OF SPRING BREAK. SO WHY WOULD I HAVE AN INCENTIVE TO KEEP WORKING WHEN I DON'T HAVE TO? AND THEN, OF COURSE, THE FOURTH OPTION WAS SLEEP ALL DAY.

AND I ALSO TOOK THAT A TON.

I REALLY I ENJOY SLEEPING.

AND WHEN I HAVE TIME, I MAY AS WELL.

NOW, UNFORTUNATELY FOR US, WE CHOSE TO DO OPTION C, AND SO THERE ARE FOUR AREAS THAT WE REALLY FOCUSED ON. SO FIRST, WE DEFINE THE FOCUS AREA.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT HERE? THE SECOND IS WE CONDUCTED RESEARCH AND INTERVIEWS, SO I WOULD GO ONLINE AND LOOK WELL, WE FIGURED OUT WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING WITH FINANCIAL LITERACY, BUT I CAN'T FIX THE DOW JONES. I CAN'T FIX THE US ECONOMY.

SO I HAVE TO REALLY NARROW MY SEARCH AND EXACTLY WHAT I'M DOING.

AND SO THAT IS WHAT WE DID.

I CONDUCTED INTERVIEWS WITH SOME PEOPLE AT SOME REALLY BIG WALL STREET FIRMS. AND SO FROM THERE I MOVED FORWARD AND IDENTIFIED THE ROOT CAUSES.

NOW THE ROOT CAUSES ARE THAT FINANCIAL LITERACY IS NOT TAUGHT AT A BASIC LEVEL AND MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS. AND SO WE SAW THIS AS AN ISSUE.

AND SO WE ASSESSED OUR OPTIONS.

AND THAT IS WHY WE ARE HERE IN FRONT OF YOU TODAY.

SO AND IF YOU SEE UP HERE, THERE'S A GRAPH NOW, INGREDIENTS IN FRIED CORN DOGS IS NOT NECESSARILY THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU NEED TO KNOW.

AND ON AVERAGE, YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW A LOT ABOUT IT.

VIDEO GAMES, TEENAGERS KNOW A LOT ABOUT ONE ON ITS RELATIVE IMPORTANCE SCALE.

IT'S NOT ACTUALLY THAT HIGH.

TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL WE KNOW A LOT ABOUT AND IT IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT.

FINANCIAL LITERACY IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT, BUT WE DON'T REALLY KNOW A LOT ABOUT IT AS HIGH SCHOOLERS. NOW, ADULTS MAY KNOW WAY, WAY, WAY MORE THAN WE DO, BUT IF WE START AT A YOUNGER AGE, THEN WE WON'T HAVE THIS KIND OF FINANCIAL CRISIS WHERE OVER 40 MILLION PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR JOBS AS WELL AS THEIR BASIC RETIREMENT FUNDS BECAUSE THEY WILL HAVE SAVED UP THEIR MONEY BEFORE AND SO THAT THEY WILL KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING.

SO WE HAVE A FOUR PRONGED APPROACH.

THE FIRST IS THE CARROLL INVESTMENT CLUB.

WE INVITE LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS TO SHARE STORIES ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS CAREERS AND EXPLAIN WHAT THEY DID, BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THAT IT IS BEST WHEN YOU BRING IN THE PEOPLE THAT EVERYONE CAN RELATE TO.

AND SO WHEN YOU CAN RELATE TO THE PERSON, YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THEM.

AND SO IT IS A MUCH EASIER CHANCE OF YOU COMPREHENDING AND AGREEING WITH WHAT THEY'RE SAYING. THE SECOND APPROACH IS A SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM.

OUR GOAL IS TO REACH OUT AND DEVELOP PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER SCHOOLS ACROSS THE STATE OF TEXAS AND GIVE THEM A FREE COLLABORATIVE CURRICULUM THAT WE HAVE CREATED WITH THE HELP OF

SOME PEOPLE AT HARVEY MUDD AS WELL AS HARVARD.

AND SO THAT WILL GIVE US ACCESS TO SPREADING WHAT WE BELIEVE COULD BE VERY HELPFUL.

THE THIRD THING IS CALLED THE REVISED NOW ALLIANCE.

THIS IS A PARTNERSHIP WITH UPLIFT NORTH HILLS INNOVATIVE STUDENT RUN TUTORING MODEL.

AND SO THAT ALLOWS STUDENTS TO EMPOWER THEMSELVES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM BECAUSE IT TEACHES LEADERSHIP.

WHEN YOU'RE A STUDENT AND YOU ARE LOOKING FOR LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES, WHY NOT TUTOR OTHER STUDENTS? SO YOU'RE HELPING YOURSELF LEARN THE MATERIAL AS WELL AS OTHER STUDENTS AND SO EVERYBODY CAN WIN.

NOW, OUR FOURTH APPROACH IS A GRANT FUND.

WE ARE FUND RAISING MONEY AND WE HAVE DONE DECENTLY WELL SO FAR.

AND WE WANT TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO CREATE LOCAL BUSINESSES.

NOW, WHAT THEY WOULD DO IS THEY WOULD SUBMIT A FULL BUSINESS PLAN.

AND WITH THIS MONEY, THEY WOULD HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A POTENTIAL BUSINESS IN SOUTHLAKE WITH THE HELP OF ADULTS OF COURSE.

NOW THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE CURRICULUM, AND WE ARE ALWAYS OPEN TO FEEDBACK AND IDEAS AND INSPIRATION BECAUSE THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS KNOWING TOO MUCH.

THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE.

AND SO THESE ARE SOME OF THE BASIC CONCEPTS THAT WE'VE COVERED.

THEY JUST WANT TO HAVE CLUBS IN SCHOOLS AND, YOU KNOW, BUILD THIS REALLY FANCY RESUME.

BUT OUR GOAL IS TO CHANGE THE LIVES OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, ESPECIALLY IN LOWER INCOME COMMUNITIES. SO WE ARE WORKING WITH SOME NONPROFIT CREATORS DOWN IN TEXAS AND THE SOUTH TEXAS, SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE WE REALLY WANT TO CHANGE THE DYNAMIC OF THESE LOWER INCOME COMMUNITIES AND MAKE SURE THAT WHEN THEY GO OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL, THEY KNOW THAT, HEY, THESE PEOPLE ACTUALLY HELPED US.

THEY DIDN'T FORGET ABOUT US.

THEY THINK IN TERMS OF GETTING INTO A GOOD COLLEGE, YOU'RE GOING TO GET A GOOD JOB.

YOU CAN HAVE A GREAT CAREER.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE DISCONNECT THERE IS MOST PEOPLE AREN'T LIVING IN SOUTHLAKE JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE A GREAT JOB OR A GOOD INCOME.

THEY MAKE GREAT INVESTMENTS.

AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I'VE DONE IS, YOU KNOW, WE TALK TO OUR DAUGHTERS NOT JUST ABOUT FINANCIAL LITERACY, BUT THE IMPORTANCE OF ASSETS, THE IMPORTANCE OF OWNERSHIP.

AND SO I LOVE WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

AND I THINK IT'S A TREMENDOUS FIRST STEP AND PLEASE DON'T BE DISCOURAGED FROM FINDING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE AREN'T WILLING TO SIGN UP BECAUSE WHAT YOU'RE DOING IS THE RIGHT THING. AND I ALWAYS REMIND PEOPLE I WAS A SCIENCE MAJOR AND ALBERT EINSTEIN ONCE SAID, OR AT LEAST IT'S ATTRIBUTED TO HIM, THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT FORMULA IN THE WORLD IS COMPOUNDING INTEREST.

AND THAT'S REALLY TOO LATE TO GET STARTED.

I MEAN, NOT TOO LATE, OBVIOUSLY, BUT IF YOU WANT TO HAVE MAJOR WEALTH, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A LOT OF LUCK ALONG THE WAY IF YOU DON'T START INVESTING REALLY EARLY.

THERE IS PORTION OF THE PROPERTY WHICH IS WITHIN THE 100 YEAR FLOOD PLAIN.

THE ACTION IS TO ALLOW THE COMBINATION OF A PORTION OF THE LOT BACK TO THE EAST INTO A SINGLE TRACK IN ORDER TO BE PLATTED AND HAVE CONSISTENT SF-1A ZONING THROUGHOUT THE PROPERTY. THE CURRENT ZONING OF THE PROPERTY WHICH IS OUTLINED IN BLUE IS THE AG PORTION, AND THAT TO THE EAST IS ALREADY ZONED SF-1A YOU CAN SEE THE PROPOSED CONFIGURATION ON THE INSET TO THE RIGHT ON THE LOT.

AND SO THE THIS PORTION OF THE PROPERTY IS PROPOSED BECOME SF-1A AND THEN THEY'LL PLAT THE ENTIRE LOT IF THE ZONING IS GRANTED.

SO IF A PERMIT DOES COME IN, THEY WILL HAVE TO MEET THAT 40 PERCENT MINIMUM ON THE TREE PRESERVATION. THIS IS THE PRELIMINARY UTILITY PLAN.

IT'LL BE SERVED BY AN EIGHT INCH WATER LINE THAT EXISTS ON EAST DOVE.

AND THERE'S ALSO A SANITARY SEWER MANHOLE JUST ON THE NORTH SIDE OF DOVE RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE PROPERTY.
