AND NOW WITH THE ROLL OUT OF THE VACCINE AND AS WE START SEEING KIND OF A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR BUSINESS COMMUNITY AT LARGE DOES RECOVER AS WELL, ALONG WITH EVERYONE'S HEALTH. SO THAT WOULD BE THIS WOULD LIKELY BE THE SLIDE THAT I JUST KIND OF FOCUS IN ON. AND WE'VE GOT A GREAT CROSS-SECTION OF OF BUSINESS LEADERS FROM THROUGHOUT THE CITY THAT HAVE BEEN BRAINSTORMING AND ZOOM MEETINGS FOR MONTHS ON END ON DIFFERENT IDEAS, LIKE YOU NOTED IN TERMS OF THE GRANTS, THE, YOU KNOW, RELAXING SOME OF OUR ORDINANCES IN A THOUGHTFUL WAY, MAYBE RELATED TO SIGNAGE OR OUTDOOR SEATING AND ENCOURAGING, YOU KNOW, BUSINESS COMPLIANCE, PARTICULARLY ON THE RETAIL SIDE WITH COVID PROTOCOLS WHERE WE CAN PLACE STICKERS TO ASSURE CUSTOMERS THAT IT'S HOPEFULLY AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE TO GO INSIDE. WHAT ARE THE PLANS? CAN YOU TALK TO US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE COMMUNICATIONS PLANS AS IT RELATES TO EDUCATING PEOPLE IN THE METROPLEX WHO FREQUENT SOUTHLAKE AND CONTRIBUTE THAT 60 PERCENT PLUS? SURE, ABSOLUTELY. SO WE DO HAVE A GOOD IDEA OF WHO OUR MARKET IS. SO AS YOU COULD PROBABLY IMAGINE, AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, DURING WORK WORK SESSION, ABOUT 60 PERCENT OF THE FOLKS THAT ARE THAT ARE, YOU KNOW, SPENDING DOLLARS HERE IN SOUTHLAKE ARE FROM OUTSIDE OF SOUTHLAKE. WE KNOW THAT OUR MARKET IS LARGELY HERE IN DFW. YOU KNOW, WE KNOW THAT. BUT IN TERMS OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS THAT WE HAVE IN THE PLAN, IN TERMS OF OPEN FOR BUSINESS, WHAT WE WOULD DO WITH THE DATA THAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE IS FOCUS A LITTLE BIT MORE ON TARGETED MARKETING. SO ONE OF THE INTERESTING TIDBITS THAT WE LEARNED OVER THE LAST ABOUT 12 TO 18 MONTHS OR SO PRIOR TO THE PANDEMIC HITTING IS WORKING WITH VERIZON AND ALSO [INAUDIBLE]. WE LEARNED THAT A LOT OF THE FOLKS THAT ACTUALLY COME AND SPEND TAX DOLLARS HERE IN SOUTHLAKE ARE ACTUALLY FOLKS THAT HAVE A LAYOVER AT DFW AIRPORT BY A LARGE PERCENTAGE WHEN YOU LOOK AT SOME OF THE ZIP CODES THAT ARE ADJACENT TO US. SO HAVING THAT KNOWLEDGE, THAT ACTUALLY HELPS US TO MAKE SURE THAT WE FOCUS A LITTLE BIT MORE OF OUR EFFORTS FROM A MARKETING AND A NOW OPEN CAMPAIGN TO, FOR EXAMPLE, FOLKS THAT ARE TRAVELING AT DFW AIRPORT. SO THAT WOULD BE PRIMARILY THE THE FOCUS WHEN WE FOCUS ON NOW OPEN, WE'RE CALLING IT NOW OPEN. CHANCES ARE THAT NAME WILL CHANGE AS TIME GOES ON. AND WE WORK WITH CONSULTANTS AND VENDORS TO ULTIMATELY PUSH OUT A LOT OF THE BRANDING FOR IT. BUT AS YOU COULD ALSO HAVE GUESSED, WE ALSO HAVE OTHER MARKETS AS WELL WHERE WE RECEIVE A LOT OF VISITORS HERE IN SOUTHLAKE. PARTICULARLY WHEN THERE'S GAMES THAT AT&T STADIUM OR OVER THERE AT AMERICAN AIRLINES CENTER AS WELL. SO ONCE WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT BETTER IDEA OF KIND OF WHO THOSE CUSTOMERS ARE AND WHERE THEY'RE COMING TO VISIT FROM, WE'LL BE ABLE TO TARGET MARKET THEM A LITTLE BIT MORE CLOSELY. AND, OF COURSE, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE OUR OTHER MARKETS HERE WITHIN THE STATE OF TEXAS AND EVEN IN OKLAHOMA THAT WE WOULD FOCUS IN ON A LITTLE BIT MORE, DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH IS BEING SPENT FROM THOSE MARKETS. AND I USED AN EXAMPLE, FOR EXAMPLE, THE HOTELS, THEY DO LIKE TO HIRE FOLKS, BUT THEY DO NEED SOME LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE. RIGHT. AND SO THERE IS THROUGH THE TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION, THERE IS ACTUALLY JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS, WHETHER THAT BE THROUGH THE SERVICE INDUSTRY OR US EVEN WORKING WITH SOME OF THE LOCAL UNIVERSITIES, SUCH AS UNT OR UTA. THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE DON'T DO AT ALL RIGHT NOW, PARTIALLY BECAUSE OF CAPACITY. BUT, YOU KNOW, ULTIMATELY THAT TECHNOLOGY HAS GOTTEN A LOT BETTER, THAT WE CAN FACILITATE A LOT OF THOSE WORKFORCE NEEDS FOR SOME OF OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES TO TRY TO GET SOME OF THE TALENT TO THEM IN A MUCH EASIER FASHION THAN THAN THE TYPICAL STANDARD THAT THEY USE NOW, WHICH IS ESSENTIALLY, YOU KNOW, YOU GO TO THAT COMPANY'S WEBSITE AND YOU SEE IF THEY'RE HIRING. SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE KIND OF CONNECTING THE DOTS FROM THE FROM THE FOLKS THAT HAVE THE TALENT TO THOSE BUSINESSES THAT NEED IT. CHAIRMAN, I MAKE A MOTION THAT WE APPROVE ITEM NUMBER NINE ON OUR AGENDA, ZA 20-0070 SUBJECT TO OUR STAFF REPORT DATED FEBRUARY 4TH, 2021 AND SUBJECT TO THE REVISED CONCEPT PLAN REVIEW SUMMARY NUMBER TWO DATED FEBRUARY 4TH, 2021, SPECIFICALLY NOTING THE APPROVAL OF VARIANCE NUMBER TWO FOR THE DRIVEWAY ORDINANCE AND SPECIFICALLY NOTING DISAPPROVAL OF VARIANCE NUMBER ONE REQUESTED RELATED TO THE SIDEWALK ORDINANCE, ALSO NOTING THE APPLICANT'S WILLINGNESS TO WORK WITH STAFF PRIOR TO CITY COUNCIL WITH RESPECT TO IDENTIFYING ANY FUTURE FENCING AS BEING SET BACK TEN FEET AS WELL AS ANY FUTURE DRIVEWAYS BEING SET BACK TWENTY FIVE FEET AND ANY FENCING ALONG THE ROAD ROADWAY BEING OF A MATERIAL WROUGHT IRON FOR ANY FUTURE FENCING AND NOTING THE APPLICANT'S INDICATION THAT THEY'RE GOING TO USE A CIRCULAR DRIVE SO TO BRING THAT ON THE PLAN TO CITY COUNCIL. AND THEN FINALLY NOTING THAT DUE TO THIS HAVING A PREEXISTING LOT WITH NO FUTURE SUBDIVISION PLANS, THAT PLANNING AND ZONING FINDS THAT THIS REQUEST IS CONSISTENT WITH A LAND USE DESIGNATION.
