AND WE HAVE A SPECIAL TREAT THIS EVENING IN THE ABSENCE OF OUR CITY CHAPLAIN, COUNCIL MEMBER RONELL SMITH IS GOING TO OPEN US UP WITH AN INVOCATION.

SO IF YOU'LL STAND AND THEN FOLLOW WITH THE PLEDGE.

YEAH, WE CAN. OKAY. OKAY. I GUESS I'M GOING TO HAVE TO LEAN OVER A LITTLE BIT HERE.

IT'S GREAT TO SEE EVERYONE IN THE NEW YEAR.

I HOPE EVERYBODY HAD A GREAT CHRISTMAS, A GREAT HOLIDAY TIME WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS, AND I HOPE IT WAS SAFE.

BUT WE'RE BLESSED TO LIVE IN A COMMUNITY LIKE SOUTHLAKE.

I WOULD LIKE TO CALL BORA SULOLLARI TO THE PODIUM TO GIVE A PRESENTATION.

IT IS NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH AND BORA IS A MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT IN THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE AND SHE'S GOING TO PROVIDE THE COUNCIL WITH AN OVERVIEW OF ALL OF THE GREAT WORK THAT THE CITY DOES TO SUPPORT MENTORSHIP THROUGHOUT THE CITY.

YES, THANK YOU, MAYOR PRO TEM AND COUNCIL MEMBERS.

I'M PLEASED TO BE HERE TONIGHT AND TO DISCUSS AND HIGHLIGHT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH AND DISCUSS SOME OF THE PROGRAMS THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE PROVIDES.

WITHIN THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, WE PROVIDE MULTIPLE MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES, BOTH INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY.

SOME OF OUR INTERNAL PROGRAMS INCLUDE OUR MENTORSHIP PROGRAM, ROUNDTABLES AND MATRIX TEAM MEETINGS WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION AND SOME OF OUR EXTERNAL OPPORTUNITIES.

THESE MENTORSHIP PROGRAMS WERE CREATED TO AID AND EXECUTE OUR SUCCESSION PLANNING INITIATIVES AND AS A WAY FOR OUR CURRENT LEADERS TO IMPACT OUR FUTURE LEADERS.

THE FIRST INTERNAL PROGRAM WE HAVE IS OUR INTERNAL MENTORSHIP PROGRAM, AND THIS PROGRAM WAS FORMED IN 2021 AND CONSISTS OF A MENTOR AND A MENTEE BEING PAIRED UP TOGETHER AND MEETING FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE HOUR A MONTH AND DISCUSSING AND PLANNING HOW TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS THE MENTEE HAS OUTLINED IN THEIR PERFORMANCE PLAN THROUGH ONE ON ONE MEETINGS. SINCE WE STARTED THE PROGRAMS, WE HAVE SEEN ABOUT 25 EMPLOYEES PARTICIPATE, AND SOME OF THE QUOTES THAT YOU SEE UP ON THE SLIDE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS WE HEARD WHEN WE ASKED WHAT WAS THE BEST PART OF THE PROGRAM.

SO IT'S BEEN A PRETTY GOOD HIT SO FAR.

AND THE NEXT WE HAVE OUR ROUNDTABLES AND OUR MATRIX TEAM MEETINGS.

WE HAVE THREE DIFFERENT ROUNDTABLES.

WE HAVE OUR DEPUTY DIRECTORS ROUNDTABLE, OUR MANAGERS ROUNDTABLE, AND OUR EMERGING LEADERS ROUNDTABLE.

AND THROUGHOUT THESE MEETINGS, THE GROUPS MEET ABOUT ONCE A MONTH, AND THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BRING A VARIETY OF PERSPECTIVES ON A SPECIFIC SUBJECT OR PROJECT AND LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES, EITHER FROM OUR CITY MANAGER OR THE EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TEAM.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE OUR MATRIX TEAM MEETINGS, WHICH YOU SEE LISTED ON THE RIGHT SIDE.

AND THESE ARE OUR INTERDEPARTMENTAL MEETINGS THAT INCLUDE EMPLOYEES FROM ALL OVER THE ORGANIZATION WORKING TOGETHER ON CORPORATE INITIATIVES SET OUT IN OUR CHARTERS.

AND THEN NEXT WE HAVE THE FIRST EXTERNAL MENTORSHIP PROGRAM, WHICH IS THE SOUTHLAKE YOUTH ACTION COMMISSION BOARD.

IT WAS FIRST ESTABLISHED IN 1994 AND IT WAS CALLED THE YOUTH ADVISORY COMMISSION IN 1998.

THE BOARD AMENDED THE NAME TO THE SOUTHLAKE YOUTH ACTION COMMISSION AFTER UPDATING SOME OF THE MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS.

SINCE THEN THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 150 STUDENTS THAT HAVE BEEN A PART OF THIS BOARD.

WE HAVE SEEN MANY PREVIOUS MEMBERS ALSO GO ON TO JOIN OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, SUCH AS THE LIBRARY STEERING COMMITTEE, THE SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL, SKIL, THE SOUTHLAKE KIDS INTERESTED IN LEADERSHIP, AND SOME HAVE EVEN RECEIVED AN INTERNSHIP IN THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE FOR THE SUMMER AND ARE CURRENTLY WORKING OVER IN CHAMPIONS CLUB OVER AT THE MARK.

AND THEN NEXT WE HAVE OUR SKIL PROGRAM AND THE CITY FORMED THIS PROGRAM IN 2015 AS A WAY TO EMPOWER AND PROVIDE LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE TO THE YOUTH COMMUNITY WITH A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TD AMERITRADE, AND THE SOUTHLAKE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

AND THE PROGRAM PROVIDES SELECT HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE AN INTERNSHIP WITH TD AMERITRADE AS THEY GET FOUR FULL DAYS WITH THE PROGRAM AND THEY GET TO LEARN AND UNDERSTAND THE OPERATIONS OF A FORTUNE 500 COMPANY.

THE STUDENTS ALSO GET TO EXPERIENCE A MINI CONFERENCE WITH THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE AND THE SOUTHEAST CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, AND THEY ALSO GET TO GET A TOUR OF THE AUSTIN STATE CAPITAL. AND WITH THAT, I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU GUYS MAY HAVE.
