AND WE HAVE I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF YOU KNOW, I WAS UNAWARE, BUT I THOUGHT I'D GIVE YOU JUST A LITTLE BIT HISTORY ABOUT THE CHINESE ZODIAC. SO THE CHINESE ZODIAC IS REPRESENTED BY 12 DIFFERENT ANIMALS, AND THE CHINESE ZODIAC YEARS BEGIN AND END WITH THE CHINESE NEW YEAR EVERY YEAR IN EITHER JANUARY OR FEBRUARY.

2023 IS THE YEAR OF THE RABBIT.

IT STARTED ON JANUARY 22ND AND WILL END ON FEBRUARY 9TH OF 2024.

YOU WERE BORN IN THE YEAR OF THE RABBIT.

AND WE HAVE MR. CHUCK HEALY. COME ON DOWN, SIR.

FIRST OF ALL, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE TWO SLIDES, ABOUT TWO RECENT RIBBON CUTTINGS AND WE LIKE TO START WITH THIS BECAUSE THE RIBBON CUTTINGS ARE SO VALUABLE TO THOSE NEW MEMBERS AND THE BUSINESS OWNERS THAT COME INTO OUR CITY AND OPEN THESE BUSINESSES.

THESE ENTREPRENEURS POUR A LOT INTO TO WHAT THEY DO.

AND WHEN PEOPLE SHOW UP, OUR AMBASSADORS PARTICULARLY, AND THEN WHEN NEW CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW UP, OUR BOARD MEMBERS SHOW UP.

IT JUST REALLY BUILDS THEIR SPIRIT AND IT GIVES THEM A SENSE OF HOPE AND CONFIDENCE AS THEY GO FORTH.

AND SO RECENTLY WE'VE HAD CRISP&GREEN ON SOUTHLAKE BOULEVARD AT KIMBALL, AND THIS IS SORT OF PRO PAINTING.

THIS WAS HELD OF THE CHAMBER OFFICE.

YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE BEHIND THAT WALL YOU JUST CAN'T SEE IN THIS PICTURE.

AND I WANT TO JUST REMARK WITH THIS, TOO.

SOMETIMES WE HAVE JOINT CHAMBER FUNCTIONS FOR RIBBON CUTTINGS.

IT IS UNBELIEVABLE HOW SOUTHLAKE SHOWS UP IN COMPARISON TO SOME OF OUR NEIGHBOR SISTER CITIES.

AND I THINK IT JUST SPEAKS AGAIN FOR OUR AMBASSADORS AND THE COMMITMENT TO THESE TO THESE PROGRAMS. THE RIBBON CUTTING TODAY, BY THE WAY, WAS AT PARLOR DONUTS.

VARIOUS REPRESENTATIVES ON OUR VARIOUS COMMITTEES.

I'LL MENTION A FEW OF THOSE NAMES AS WE GO THROUGH THE REPORT.

WHEN WE STARTED OUT THE YEAR BACK IN JULY, THE BOARD FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO DEVELOP VALUES.

WE DIDN'T REALLY HAVE A VALUE STATEMENT.

THE CHAMBER HAS A MISSION, BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE A VALUE STATEMENT.

AND SO IN A COLLECTIVE EFFORT AND A UNITED WAY, THE BOARD CAME TOGETHER AND WE ELECTED FIVE KEY TERMS TO PROMOTE OUR VALUES THAT WE HOPE ARE REFLECTIVE IN ALL THAT, NOT JUST THE BOARD, BUT WHAT THE CHAMBER DOES AND WHO THE CHAMBER IS AND THE CULTURE.

AND THOSE FIVE THINGS WERE WELCOMING.

BEING RESPECTFUL WHERE WE RESPECT EACH BUSINESS OWNER FOR WHO THEY ARE, WHAT THEY'VE ACCOMPLISHED, STRUGGLES, TRIALS, TRIUMPHS, WHATEVER IT MAY BE.

WE'RE RESOURCEFUL.

WE WANT TO PROVIDE VALUABLE RESOURCES TO THESE MEMBERS, AND WE'RE COLLABORATIVE.

WE'RE WORK WITH THOSE MEMBERS INDIVIDUALLY, COLLECTIVELY, AND THE SUPPORT WITH THE VARIOUS THINGS THAT THE CHAMBER PUTS ON TO SUPPORT THOSE BUSINESSES.

AND THEN LASTLY, WE ARE UNITED IN WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE PRESENT OURSELVES AND BEHAVE.

SO I HOPE YOU SEE, HOPE THAT YOU SEE THE BOARD REFLECTING THOSE PRINCIPLES AND THAT THAT CULTURE REALLY BEGINS TO DEEPEN AS WE GO FORWARD AS A CHAMBER.

A FAMILIAR FACE JAKE COLDREN WAS RECOGNIZED FOR INNOVATION.

THE THING THAT STOOD OUT FOR HIM AND HIS NOMINATION, WHICH WAS SEVERAL PAGES LONG, WAS THAT HE RECOGNIZED THAT A LOCAL FITNESS FACILITY DID CLOSE THEIR DOORS.

HOWEVER, THEY HAD A VERY POPULAR INSTRUCTOR.

HE WENT AFTER THAT INSTRUCTOR, GOT THEM TO COME ON BOARD AS ONE OF OUR INSTRUCTORS, AND THEN 100 NEW MEMBERS JOINED CHAMPIONS CLUB TO FOLLOW HER.

SO REALLY GREAT OUTSIDE THE BOX THINKING THAT JAKE IMBODIED THERE.

MARK CISNEROS, OUR CHIEF CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR, WAS WAS RECOGNIZED FOR HIS COMMITMENT TO ACCOUNTABILITY.

HE WAS PROMOTED THIS LAST YEAR, PARTLY BECAUSE OF THIS ACCOUNTABILITY THAT HE HAS DEMONSTRATED FOR MANY YEARS.

HE WAS THE CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR FOR THE WHITE CHAPEL WIDENING PROJECT, AND HE WORKED CLOSELY WITH ALL OF THOSE STAKEHOLDERS INVOLVED TO REALLY MAKE SURE HE WORKED HARD TO GET THAT PROJECT DONE AS QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY AS POSSIBLE.

OUR PURCHASING MANAGER, TIM SLIFKA, IS A VERY LONG TENURED EMPLOYEE AND HE BRINGS EXCELLENCE TO WORK EVERY SINGLE DAY AND HE GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND AS HE WORKS THROUGH HIS ISSUES. BUT PARTICULARLY EVIDENT THIS YEAR WAS THE SUPPLY CHAIN CHALLENGES THAT WE'VE ALL EXPERIENCED.

AND HE WORKS TIRELESSLY TO MAKE SURE OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE THE EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES AND VEHICLES THEY NEED TO DO THEIR JOB SUCCESSFULLY.

SO THEY WORKED VERY HARD TO TIRELESSLY MAKE SURE ALL OF OUR CUSTOMERS HAD THEIR UNINTERRUPTED, EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE THAT THEY EXPECT FROM US EVERY DAY.

AND IT TRULY TOOK THIS LARGE TEAM.

IT INVOLVED EMPLOYEES FROM PUBLIC WORKS, UTILITY, BILLING, I.T.

HE WAS UNINJURED BUT REQUIRED ASSISTANCE AND WHEN THEY STARTED TO ASSIST HIM, THEY REALIZED THAT, OH NO, HE HAS SOILED HIMSELF.

AND WITH THEIR UNRIVALED CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEIR SPIRIT TO OUR VALUES, THEY SAID, WE WILL HELP YOU.

SO THEY GOT HIM CLEANED UP, PUT HIM BACK IN BED, DID HIS LAUNDRY, TOOK CARE OF IT ALL.

BUT IT WAS DEVELOPED BECAUSE THERE WAS AN ALIGNMENT WITH THE CITY'S STRATEGIC PRIORITIES OF PARTNERSHIPS AND VOLUNTEERISM.

AND OF COURSE, THERE'S BENEFITS TO THE CITY THAT WE RECEIVE WHENEVER WE HAVE THESE EVENTS OCCUR WITHIN THE COMMUNITY.

BUT OF COURSE, THE CEPP AS IT CURRENTLY STANDS, IT'S NOT PERFECT.

THERE ARE LIMITATIONS TO IT.

SO WHEN WE WORKED INTERNALLY, WE SAID, YOU KNOW, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MOST BASIC ITEMS THAT SOME OF THESE EVENTS NEED THAT TYPICALLY ARE SOME OF A LOT OF THE EVENT'S ORGANIZERS ARE NOT TYPICALLY THINKING ABOUT? I DON'T HAVE THE AMOUNT FOR FOR COUNCIL TODAY, AND A LOT OF IT WILL BE BASED ON BUDGETING.

AND IF WE DO PROPOSE AN INCREASE IN THE CEPP FROM THE $10,000 TO A HIGHER AMOUNT THAT WOULD BE PROPOSED DURING THE BUDGET PROCESS.
