SB23-0007. IF IT'S OKAY WITH STAFF, WE SAW THAT IN THE WORK SESSION AND MAYBE JUST PUT UP THE RELEVANT SLIDES AND WE'LL CALL THE APPLICANT UP.

YES. GREATER METROPLEX INTERIORS IS REQUESTING VARIANCES TO THE SIGN ORDINANCE FOR A SCULPTURE SIGN AT 350 SOUTH NOLAN.

AND THIS IS PICTURES OF THE SIGN AND THESE ARE THE REQUESTED VARIANCES.

I'M ALSO A SOUTHLAKE RESIDENT AND LIVE HERE AT 101 ASCOTT, RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL.

WE'RE A DRYWALL SUBCONTRACTOR.

WE'VE BEEN HERE SINCE 1978.

WE'RE THE SECOND LARGEST DRYWALL SUBCONTRACTOR IN TEXAS AND WE'RE THE 11TH LARGEST IN AMERICA.

SO EXPERIENCED A LOT OF GROWTH LATELY, ENOUGH GROWTH TO WHERE WE NEEDED TO BUILD A NEW CORPORATE OFFICE.

SO WE BUILT OUR CORPORATE OFFICE THERE ON NOLAN.

AND LET'S SEE WHAT ELSE I HAVE.

WE FINISHED LAST SPRING.

WE BUILT THE SIGN.

YES, WE'RE ASKING FOR FORGIVENESS.

WE BUILT THE SIGN OURSELVES.

I THINK WE MENTIONED THERE WAS NO SIGN VENDOR INVOLVED BECAUSE WE BUILT IT OURSELVES AND IT'S JUST MEANT TO HIGHLIGHT WHAT WE DO.

IT'S A STEEL SIGN, WHICH IS A PART OF WHAT WE DO, STEEL FABRICATION.

AND IT'S JUST A GREAT INTRO TO OUR BUILDING.

PEOPLE SEE IT AND THEY OBSERVE WHAT WE DO AND JUST KIND OF TAKE PRIDE IN OUR BUILDING.

AND OUR BUILDING'S BEEN, WE'VE RECEIVED A LOT OF COMPLIMENTS FROM PEOPLE THAT VISIT OUR BUILDING AND.

YES, I WOULD ASK THAT WE ALLOW THE VARIANTS, PLEASE, FOR OUR SIGN.

AND IF I UNDERSTAND CORRECTLY FROM THE PRESENTATION IN THE WORK SESSION, IT'S TRULY INTERIOR TO THE PROPERTY AND IT'S NOT VISIBLE FROM THE STREET.

I GUESS MY ONLY COMMENT WOULD BE NORMALLY I'M NOT A BIG FAN OF THESE BECAUSE THEY NEED TO GO THROUGH THE PROCESS.

BUT GIVEN THE FACT THAT, YOU KNOW, IT'S SO FAR OFF THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY, I THINK IT'S A PRETTY GOOD LOOKING SIGN.

AND I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THOSE INSTANCES WHEN AN EXCEPTION SHOULD BE MADE.

SO I WOULD BE OKAY WITH IT.

BUT GLAD TO HEAR OTHER PEOPLE'S THOUGHTS.

OR NOT? WELL, I AGREE WITH YOU THAT THE FACT THAT IT'S REALLY, I HATE TO START SETTING A PRECEDENT LIKE THIS BECAUSE EVERYBODY WILL WIND UP WITH A FAULTY MEMORY, BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND THAT THESE GUYS WERE TOLD THAT THE SIGNS WERE NOT, NO SIGNS WERE APPROVED ALONG WITH THE PERMITTING ORIGINALLY.

SO, IT'S REALLY THEY WERE THEY KNEW ABOUT IT TO START WITH.

SO BUT I FEEL THE SAME WAY.

IT'S LIKE IT'S NOT A TERRIBLE SIGN AND IT'S NOT IN ANYBODY'S FACE.

BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT I THINK THAT WE NEED TO PUT A LIMIT ON ANY FURTHER SIGNS THAT THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE THERE. BASED ON, JUST TAKING THE LIBERTY TO GO AHEAD AND THROW THIS UP WITHOUT ASKING PERMISSION AT ALL.

SO I DON'T KNOW HOW THAT WOULD BE.

I KNOW THAT WE HAD DISCUSSED THE FACT THAT THERE MAY BE A FUTURE MONUMENT SIGN JUST FOR THE ENTIRE COMPLEX THERE.

SO, I MEAN, YOU KNOW, OF COURSE THEY'D BE ABLE TO GO AHEAD AND GET THEIR NAME ON THAT.

BUT I DON'T THINK WE OUGHT TO ALLOW ANY OTHER SIGNS OR SCULPTURE, PIECES OF ART, WHATEVER, WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE PROCESS.

SOUNDS REASONABLE. YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS AS YOU SIT THERE AS THE APPLICANT WITH THE COMMENTS ON THAT? COME ON UP HERE. COME ON.

I BELIEVE I UNDERSTAND IF WE WANT TO PUT UP ANOTHER SIGN OR MONUMENT, WE'D NEED TO GO THROUGH THE PROCESS.

YEAH, AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE RECOMMENDATION WOULD BE, DEPENDING ON WHAT THE OTHERS SAY, THAT WHILE YOU COULD PUT YOUR NAME ON THE MONUMENT SIGN, MAYBE THAT'S OVER, I GUESS GOING TO BE ON NOLAN.

THERE'S NOT GOING TO BE.

THE RECOMMENDATION WOULD BE THERE'D BE NO OTHER BUILDING SIGNS OR ANYTHING ALONG THOSE LINES.

OKAY. YEAH, THOSE THREE BUILDINGS THAT ARE TO THE EAST OF OUR BUILDING, IT'S THE SAME OWNERS, BUT THEY'RE ACTUALLY NOT ASSOCIATED WITH GMI.

SO IT'S, IF THEY BUILD A MONUMENT.

I MEAN, I DEAL WITH THEM.

SO I'LL MAKE SURE THAT THEY KNOW TO GO THROUGH THE PROPER PROCESS FOR THE SIGNS FOR THOSE BUILDINGS.

BUT IT JUST SETS A BAD PRECEDENT FOR PEOPLE JUST PUTTING UP WHATEVER THEY WANT.

YEAH, I UNDERSTAND.

AND JUST SO YOU'RE CLEAR, WHAT WE WOULD DO IS WE'RE A RECOMMENDING BODY.

WE WOULD RECOMMEND THAT THE POTENTIAL TO PUT A SIGN ON THE BUILDING BE EXCLUDED, BUT YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO DO MONUMENT SIGN.

BUT ULTIMATELY IT GOES TO CITY COUNCIL.

THEY'RE GOING TO SAY YES OR NO.

AND THAT'S WHERE THE ULTIMATE DECISION IS MADE.

SO. OKAY. AND TO BE CLEAR, THAT'S ON YOUR MAIN BUILDING.

I DON'T THINK WE'RE SAYING A RESTRICTION ON THE OTHER THREE BUILDINGS, CORRECT? RIGHT. SO JUST SO I UNDERSTAND.

WE ALSO WOULD PERMIT THE ADDITION OF GMI'S NAME TO ANY MONUMENT SIGN, BUT WOULD IMPOSE A RESTRICTION ON ANY ADDITIONAL SIGNS ON THE HEADQUARTERS BUILDING FOR GMI, ALTHOUGH GIVING YOU THE OPPORTUNITY, SHOULD YOU SO CHOOSE TO COME BEFORE THIS BODY TO REQUEST ADDITIONAL SIGNAGE.
