AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS, OUR VOLUNTEERS CONTINUE TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR INVALUABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE AND WE ARE THRILLED TO RECOGNIZE MANY OF THEM THIS EVENING. THIS EVENING. ITEM NUMBER SIX TONIGHT, SPECIAL HONORS AND RECOGNITION FOR OUR SOUTHLAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND OUR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS.AS YOU ALL KNOW A FEW WEEKS AGO, WE HAD A THREAT AT OLD UNION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WHICH FORCED ALL THE STUDENTS TO BE EVACUATED TO THE ISD ADMINISTRATION BUILDING. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE THREAT WAS A FALSE ALARM.
BUT BY ALL ACCOUNTS, IT WAS A PERFECT OPERATION IN SCHOOL SAFETY AND THE REACTION TIME, THE THE BREADTH OF THE RESPONSE. I THINK EVERY SOUTHLAKE POLICE OFFICER WAS ON THE PREMISES OR AT ONE OF THE OTHER CAMPUSES HERE IN SOUTHLAKE.
IT WAS REALLY AN INCREDIBLE OPERATION AND IT SHOWED US AT OUR VERY BEST.
I KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF TRAINING GOES INTO THAT A LOT OF IT BEHIND THE SCENES.
BUT WHEN IT WAS NEEDED, IT WAS THERE. AND THE PUBLIC, WHETHER YOUR PARENTS OF KIDS AT THAT SCHOOL OR JUST A MEMBER OF THE SOUTHLAKE COMMUNITY, EVERYONE APPLAUDED THAT RESPONSE. AND WE'RE APPRECIATIVE OF WHAT WAS DONE.
SO TONIGHT, WE WANTED TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK CHIEF CASEY AND YOUR ENTIRE TEAM.

AND I THINK YOU SAW THAT ON FULL DISPLAY THAT DAY, LED BY CAPTAIN HERNANDEZ.
WE WERE APPRECIATIVE OF HIS LEADERSHIP AND HIS COLLABORATION AND COORDINATION WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, BOTH DURING THAT EVENT AND AFTER THAT EVENT. SO THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THAT.
WHEREAS THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE RECOGNIZES THE VITAL ROLE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS PLAY IN FOSTERING A SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF. AND WHEREAS, THE PROFESSIONALISM, COMMITMENT AND EXCELLENCE DEMONSTRATED BY SOUTHLAKE SROS IS A REFLECTION OF THE OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP OF POLICE CHIEF ASHLEY CASEY AND CAPTAIN HERNANDEZ.

ONE THING I LEARNED IS THAT SOUTHLAKE HAS BEEN A TREE CITY USA FOR 27 CONSECUTIVE YEARS.
